Madison County Fair Queen Contest
The Madison County Fair Queen Contest is hosted by Madison County Farm Bureau. It is open to young ladies between the ages of 16 and 21 who are active in Madison County. Applications are due to the Madison County Farm Bureau Office in Winterset by Thursday, July 1, and questions can be directed to Jodie at (515)462-2661.

Madison County Fair King Contest
The Madison County Fair King Contest is returning to the 2010 fair! Madison County males between the ages of 15 and 21 are eligible to compete. The deadline is July 5, so run, don't walk, to the Madison County Extension Office to grab your application! Questions? Call (515)462-1001.
Demolition Derby
A demolition derby is a motorsport in which drivers compete by deliberately ramming their vehicles into one another. The last driver whose vehicle is operating porperly, using the term properly very loosely, wins! If you are interested in competing in this event or have questions about it, call (641)782-4807.

ISU Learning Center
The Iowa Learning Farm is traveling across Iowa with the new Conservation Station, a mobile learning center that encourages all Iowans to help protect and improve soil and water quality. Through demonstrations, pictures, computer animations, three dimensional interactive displays, videos, and sound, people of all ages can learn why Iowa's water and soils are so precious and how they can help preserve and protect these natural resources. Visitors can see the Conservation Station for free and will learn about soil, water, crop residue, prairies, and wetlands, It also has a rainfall simulator, demonstrating the affects of rainfall on the land, collecting surface water runoff and subsurface drainage. This will be located at the north end of the fairgrounds from 5:00 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 15. Bill Riley Talent Search
The Bill Riley Talent Search annually showcases the diverse abilities of Iowa's young people. This is a qualifying show in which winners will advance to the Iowa State Fair competition. Family Center's Rough Stock Rodeo
The Interstates Rodeo Association (IRA), along with the National Federation of Professional Bullriders (NFPB), is host hosting a two night rodeo event on July 15 and 16. Antique Tractor Pull
The Madison County fairgrounds will be the location of a South West Iowa Antique Tractor Pull (SWIATP) on July 17 at 10:00 am. Register before 9:00 am at the grandstands; members and non-members are eligible to compete. See the following links for divisions and rules. Questions? National Antique Tractor Pullers Association (NATPA) Rules
Open Class Bottle/Bucket Calf Show
The open class bottle calf show allows young children to learn the basics of animal care and feeding. It is a wonderful opportunity for children between the ages of 5 and 13 to begin their careers raising livestock, or just to have a fun time! 4-Wheeler Races
The Madison County 4-wheeler race is open to people of all ages. It is not a competitive event, strictly for fun! Bring your 4-wheeler to the east pit gate of the grandstands on Saturday, July 17 between 4:00 and 6:30 pm to register. The races will begin at 7:00. Questions? 4x4 Mud Run
The 4x4 Mud Run Farmer Class tests a driver's ability to speed through a course of mud and compete against other drivers for the best time. It is open to all drivers with a 4 wheel drive vehicle that fits the competition requirements. State Horseshoe Pitching Tournament
Winterset Parks and Recreation has coordinated an Iowa Hawkeye Horseshoe Pitchers Association (IHHPS) sanction event at the fair on Sunday, July 18. There are divisions for all skill levels, and classes will be determined by ringer percentage. Non-IHHPA members will pitch in an open class division, and all men, women, and youth under 18 are encouraged to participate. Trophies and prize money will be awarded. Questions? Think you can cook some great food? If so, the Farm Bureau Cook-Out Contest is for you! Make your best dishes and compete against others to be known as the best cook in Madison County, then represent the county at the state competition during the Iowa State Fair. Monster Arm Wrestling
Mother Monster Lee Ann Krough has conducted Monster Arm Wrestling tournaments in the state of Iowa for the past 30 years. It uses a machine to test the strength of man-vs-man or woman-vs-woman. Want to give it a try? Just show up at the North Show Ring of the Madison County Fairgrounds between 1:00 and 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 18, ready to register and weigh in.
